Bringing Live Folk Music to the Nancy Appleby Theatre in Athabasca!

Peter Opryshko and Shirley Stashko's brainchild has resulted in 20 years of wonderful music in Athabasca. What would it be like to invite all your friends over to your house and have live music (similar to the well-known "kitchen paries" common in Atlantic Canada and elsewhere)? Well, that was the original concept that they had 20 years ago.

It all started in 1997 with the amazing Laura Love and her very rocking band. Since then the Heartwood family has continued to grow as Peter brings in some truly gifted musicians from around Alberta, Canada and the world. The Past Shows tab leads (or soon will lead) to our archive of all past shows we have a record of--so almost 20 years!

By 2014 they realized it was necessary to solve some issues they were having with Canada Revenue Agency administering contracts for out-of-country performers and similar. They decided it would also be good to have more help with the operation of the Club, so on December 5, 2014 Heartwood Folk Club registered as a non-profit organization under Alberta's Societies Act.
